Think what may have happened if your securement "hook" had came loose while you were cranking on the winch!!

Lay a heavy canvas tarp over the strap and it will absorb the energy if the strap pops off. It is a couple hundred pounds of tension. Not a lot but enough to cause injury if not careful, yes. You could also tie a rope to the strap to stop a fly away situation.
