We are back and our Keys trip was great. From our drive way to our site was 373 miles.
Very uneventful drive down, we left at 0730 except about two hours in I started asking myself if I secured the chains, so I pulled into a rest stop to check (nope, I had not) they were tucked back and on the tongue were I keep them when not in use. Hooked them up and we were again on our way.
Four hours into our trip using the cruise control and traveling at 63 mph the computer was reading 9 mpg. I estimate our TT to weight about 6500 lbs ( yellow sticker reads 5700lbs).
We arrived at Jolly Roger at 3:20 pm ( two hour drive on US-1) due to traffic.
I stated before we are SP people and as I pulled into the park my first thought was this place looked crowded and close. We were met my park staff who came out of the office before I could get out of my truck, who asked our names and by use of the park map showed us where to go. We circled the park to out site and settled in. We where parked between two giant Diesel Pushers. Parking is on the grass, and each site has a concrete slab sitting area approx 8' x 10' . Ours did not line up with our door, we simply used our outdoor mat and the concrete pad. Our sewer hook up ( and several others in our area) were in the middle of the sites approx 10" out of the ground.
Our neighbors sewer drain was approx two feet from our concrete sitting pad. Besides the closeness and the locations / heights of the sewer hookups, I did enjoy this park. The park was clean, restrooms and showers nice, the pool and lawn area around the pool were well manicured!
The dock and boat launch area were very nice and every night even with what seemed to be 100 people watching the sunset, there was plenty of room. The snorkeling there was fun and we saw numerous different types of fish and also Lobsters, Crabs, Barricuda and one nurse shark while snorkling over by the rocks.
The park was full of "snowbirds" who we talked to daily to include one couple from Illinois who had been there since November. Met another couple who told us of their recent trip to Alaska in their Lance TC and another couple who will be leaving for Alaska in May.
The campground is not real close to shopping ( about an 30 minute drive south to Publix).
Before I forget, I want to recommend (if your interested in snorkling) Robbie's snorkling trips. This may have been the best snorkling I've ever done, in the clearest water along a reef with what seemed to be a 1000 colorful fish to include some decent size barracuda....lol....to keep it interesting!
We also visited Bahia Honda SP and did some snorkling and site seeing there, and of course drove down to Key West.
We really did have great weather while there My best times (besides Robbie's) were just relaxing at the campground / grilling / sipping a few / and sitting in the warm constant breeze looking out over the gulf!
Yes I would go back to this park! The closeness of the units was overcome by the view of the water and my DP neighbors rig helped cut down on the afternoon sun beating down. That being said, I can see it getting rather hot there in the summer months on some sites with a lack of shade trees.
Our return home trip was uneventful beside some heavy down pours. I kept the truck in Tow Haul mode, speeds between 62 and 63 mph and feathered the gas pedal ( did not use cruise control). About four hours in I checked the computer and was averaging 10.5 mpg. Engine temp remained between 195 and 203 during the trip in weather mostly in the mid 80s.
Cleaning the TT today, mowing the lawn, other house stuff, etc.........should have stayed in the Keys!
