Florida Keys Camping, any recommendation?

Thanks everyone, I will check these out. Main reason for choosing the Keys is mainly to get on water with the Zodiac boat and do some snorkle and also drive along the keys down to Key west with the scooter.

I camp once at John Kennekamp and Bahia Honda during Christmas about 25 years ago, no reservations at all! Internet did not exist at that time and we had a pop up tent trailer. I guess you have to get on the Web after midnight or some like that.

And for those Snobby campground that do not accept TC, I guess I just have to rent a MH then I get to mix with the Distinctive Elite and I am a totally different person!

We enjoyed our stay at Geiger Key RV Park.

The best RV campground in the Keys is the one you can get......

Jolly Roger is also our favorite. The problem that you are having with Bahia holds true for the other state parks too. Plus, even if you can get a cancelation, it will usually only be for a few days or a week- a far cry from spending the winter there.
We tried for months, two of us, multiple laptops etc and were only able to get one reservation at a state park in the keys.

There are many great places to rv camp in the Keys. We have tried many of them and have our favorites. #1 in our book is Jolly Roger Travel Park. It is located in Marathon on the Gulf side. It has been re-worked the last couple years and now has a new pool with great lighting and landscaping. A brand new shower house for men and women. It is outstanding. There is dockage available, a pier to watch sunsets or fish from, and a swim area marked with buoys where you can snorkel and watch fish and lobsters along the sea wall. Many of the new sites are HUGE and are on the south side of the park. We wrote about it on trip advisor for more info. They accept good sam discounts and also passport america. They also have the best RV staff to assist you in whatever you need. If you are going into Key West we recommend Boyds. Although higher priced, the location is teriffic to get into Key West by bus, cab or bike. The park is very nice. The pool is clean and well kept but the showers could use updating. They are clean though. We stayed a few nights at Long Key. Great state park. Clean and comfortable and right on the water. Not much too close to do but the drive to restaurants or activities is fairly reasonable. We are in the keys every 6-7 weeks so if we can assist with any other info....just ask.

Boyds is another favorite of ours..$$$ though.

The trick to get in a state park that is always full is to call. The operator can lock the camp site before you can get it on the net.

2. Number of RV sites available in all 4 parks added together: 221

3. Number of Tent only sites. (Can’t be used for RV’s): 30

Thousands and thousands!!!

During the tourist season, getting into any of the Keys state parks is just a matter of persistence. They are booked solid a year in advance.
All you can do is keep trying and hope to catch a cancellation. If you do, run out and buy a Lotto ticket while your luck is good. :B

Unless only Bahia Honda will do, try the other SP's as well. Our personal favorites are (1) Curry Hammock and (2) Long Key.

Now get out that rabbits foot, rub your left ear with your right hand, go find a four leaf clover, hang up a clove of garlic, put the sugar in the cup before you pour in the tea and get on the internet or phone.

You can also try Long Key State park, Curry Hammock State Park and Geiger key campground near Key West. John Pennecamp State park is in Key Largo 60 miles north of Bahia Honda
