Ford 7.3 owners towing 12,000 lb 5th

I now have a Columbus 340RK, loaded about 12,400, pulls great. With the Cougar I averaged 11.9 mph towing from MI to FL. I had no problems in the Mountains.I have only 104,000 on it.Excellent condition, I'll probably keep it.

Well not a 7.3, but same vintage Ram/Cummins, and very happy, small tuner also and pull 11,000# 5er, about 19,500 GCVWR.
Looking at your profile the Cougar 290EFS if as new as 2006, only has a GVWR of about 10,000#, are you looking bigger.

My previous truck was an f450, 7.3 psd. Pulling was okay, but the ride was horrible. Blew some high pressure hoses later in its life. Now I have a much bigger more comfortable truck.

I do not have a Ford,but a 5.9 Cummins in an'04.5 Dodge pulling a just under 12K 5th. We have been from Charleston,S.C. to Maryland, to the Grand Coulee Dam, to Portland, Or. We are very satisfied with our rigs performance. We have averaged 10.5- 11 mpg over all those miles. I am not pushed by others going up hills/mountains while driving at my speed. I would not be afraid to hitch up and pull to Alaska with this setup. I would think a Ford 7.3 will just as well for you. JMHO.
