Ford 7.3 v8

I don't know how many times I've heard that the 7.3 is a copy of the LS engine. I'd like to know what it is that makes it a copy and what the LS has that is exclusive to itself and this engine. I'm not saying that there aren't any similarities but what are they and what does the LS have that no other engine except this one have.

The original small block Chevy engines had the middle two exhaust ports very close to each other and the LS doesn't. Could it be said that the LS copied other manufacturers head designs. The way I look at it they all build off of each other.

Looks like TFL's 7.3 had a coil wire go bad and the part maybe on back order.

Go to any Ford forum and you'll find the 7.3 does way better than that once broken in but big displacement engines by nature aren't going to be fuel efficient.

I would say that's extremely unlikely, since the 7.3 diesel was not a Ford engine. It was a Navistar engine adapted for use in Ford trucks, not unlike the Cummins in the Ram. The displacement number may or may not be a coincidence.

I doubt it. BUT with that said, the gas versions of that block IHC made were good motors. In someways better than diesel ones. Rumour had it tho, the 6.9 version liked to break crankshafts do to torque of the motor. Diesel motors did not have that issue.
These are the IDI versions. The T444e/7.3 psd was a different animal test.
I would go with coinsidence over planned.

IIRC the lower power rating is due to the way engine power is certified (bench dyno vs chassis dyno or something like that) in commercial vehicles vs pickups. The F550 also is rated at 350 hp instead of the 430 in the 250/350. I believe the actual engine output is the same. Someone much smarter than me (maybe Shinerbock) could explain it much better. It's too bad the motorhome only gets a six speed trans though.
