- ib516Explorer III wonder if you have to wear a pirate costume to drive it? Seems to be the norm for the accountants and tax lawyers that ride Harleys....man are they ever scary looking :R
WILD HOGS! :B
....and people complain about "noisy diesel engines" in campgrounds...then some fool rides by on a POS Harley that he has removed the baffles from...and it always seems to need to be revved up for no reason.....I guess a big "HEY LOOK AT ME PLEASE" sign would be too conspicuous? Those things would wake the dead!
Loud pipes - they don't save lives, they annoy the he!! out of people!

Now that we are back to topic, I'll give a short version of BIL's Harley 150.
It is a 2000 supercab 5.4 2wd. He bought it new, with the idea, it would be a very limited production. He borrowed the money to buy it, as an investment. He drove it 17 miles from the dealership, stopped to show me, and proceeded home.
It has been sitting in the shed ever since, with the meter now showing 26 miles.
For years he claimed he was going to make a fortune on it. He is now 65, has no family, other than my wife, to pass it on to.
I'm thinking he has about $30,000 invested, after paying interest.
What would you want to pay for it now? Some times these things do work out, but my thinking is, this one, not so much.

Obviously it is worth what someone will pay for it, but NADA says it is worth a little under $12,000.00. - MFLNomad IINow that we are back to topic, I'll give a short version of BIL's Harley 150.

- cmoecmoeExplorerWow... This thread really went down the winding road...
- KennedycamperExplorerI really think it's the rider; however, although the sport bikes may be faster, they have better brakes & handling too.
- HannibalExplorerI rode a friend's Ninja years ago. First I was surprised how big it was. Then how comfortable the riding position was. However, it would easily encourage me to want to ride much faster than my old Harley FL. For that reason alone, I never bought one. I did enough damage to myself with a dirt bike when I was in my 20s.

Sportbikes are no more dangerous than trail bikes, cruisers, or bicycles, AFATG. The rider is the deciding factor.
Sportbike riders tend to be younger people, who are more likely to ride faster and take more chances. Also they are more likely to have limited riding experience.
Being a long time motorcyclist who has ridden/owned many different makes/types of motorcycles over the years, I would have to agree with you. I've ridden from 16 years old to an older 'mature' rider.
In the end, it is the rider who decides how much throttle to open, how fast a corner will be taken or attempted to be taken.
