Ford BLIS w/Cross Traffic Alert

I am confused. I have ordered an F-150 and ordered their BLIS w/Cross Traffic Alert. I wanted their BLIS w/Cross Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow, but it was not available on the F-150 platform, I would have had to get the F-250 at minimum.

The truck is now "In Production" on their tracking website, so I can download the window sticker. The window sticker lists "BLIS w/Trailer Tow Monitoring."

Does that mean I have the BLIS w/Cross Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow, or does that mean I have BLIS w/Cross Traffic Alert that turns itself off when towing?

Ford does not make this easy.

I am pretty sure that you have everything, meaning BLIS that works with the trailer plus cross traffic monitoring in parking spots. I have a 2016 with F-150 with BLIS w/Cross Traffic Alert and Max Trailer Tow. My understanding is that they enhanced what I have by enabling it watch for traffic beside the trailer in addition to just beside the truck. I don't believe that they took anything away. The cross traffic monitoring is pretty handy when backing out of a parking spot. My BLIS gets turned off when I am pulling a trailer since it does not warn of things beside the trailer and they don't want to mislead me.
  • If it is listed on the window sticker and not removed do to another option then it will be on the truck.

I don't think the BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) will work if have the trailer hooked up. The rear sensor will detect the trailer. I have to turn mine off anytime I have a trailer hooked up. Since the sensor is located on the rear bumper I can't see how it can not detect the trailer as a passing vehicle.

My bet is when you have a trailer plugged in and hooked up BLIS will be disabled.

    Don
  • I believe it does work with the trailer hooked up. At least that's how it's described on Fords website. The monitor is on the mirror I believe.
  • OP here. The Ford website lists 2 separate BLIS packages. BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert, which has the sensors in the mirrors, and makes NO mention of towing. BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow which has sensors in the mirrors AND in the tail lights.

According to the website, an F-150 gets the first one, and F-250 and better gets the second.

The confusing thing is that the website does not mention towing at all on the first one, and uses the term "Trailer Tow" for the second. My window sticker uses the term "Trailer Tow Monitoring." That does not match either one.

The use of the word "Monitoring" has me thinking it monitors for a trailer and turns itself off. However, the second package is the only one that mentions towing, so I am not sure that it is not the one I am getting.
  • Ford was hoping no one would ever ask because its a hard system to explain and even more so with a trailer hooked up.
