The fact that the 5.0 is the smallest V8 available in a pickup really doesn't matter, at least not to me. It outperforms its larger predecessors (the 5.4 Triton and the old, gutless 5.8 or 351 Windsor) by a wide margin. But face it, normally aspirated V8s are dinosaurs. Ford may have the only V6 in the 150/1500 series lineup, but it performs wheel to wheel with any of its competition. Chevy's standard engine is a turbo four cylinder. Ram doesn't have a turbo gas engine in a pickup-yet- but I think they will soon.
You could be right and you're right about GM's 2.7 turbo 4 cylinder (forgot about that one) and then of course has the 4.3 non turbo V6 in the lineup, however I think the 4.3 V6 may eventually be discontinued in favour of the 2.7 turbo 4..that's my guess.
I wonder how long these internal combustion engines are going to be around in pickups ? I for one will be sad to see them go, having had many internal combustion engines...since 1965, when I got my first vehicle, a little Czechoslovakian made Jawa 2 stroke 50cc scooter.
