- valhalla360NavigatorBetween the change in the political winds, low gas prices and risk of introducing a problematic drivetrain if they don't fully vette it (think 6.0)...it was likely a good decision.
Honestly, I would think a plub-in-hybrid pickup in the low payload/towing range would be pretty straight forward and would be a winner. Most people don't use the full capability anyway but with say a 200hp 4 banger and a 50 mile battery (easily placed under the truck bed), you could commute most days and when you do have a weekend camping trip range isn't an issue. They could easily maintain 1500lb payload and say a 5000lb tow rating. All without driving the price thru the roof.
This also addresses any concerns with battery supply limitations as they would only need a fraction of the capacity.
Done properly, it would have monster performance loaded and unloaded.
It would take a little more ground up redesign but no reason, you couldn't eventually take the same idea up into the 3/4 & 1 ton truck range. wilber1 wrote:

Heh heh. It kinda grows on you. It’s more of a function over form thing for some.
Kind of looks like something that might grow on you and not in a nice way. Any pickup bed that can only be accessed by lowering the tailgate is not function over form IMO.
The tonneau cover is power and rolls up at the push of a button. Most taller trucks nowadays don’t get accessed from the side anymore anyway.
The cybertruck would be way more functional than a standard truck for us. But everybody has different needs and expectations. Somethings are important to some and others to others.
- Built in 120 and 240 volt on board.
- Built in Compressor on board
- Power tonneau cover.
- better and more storage compartments.
- better performance
- fuelable at home
- quieter
- built in truck ramps
- stainless steel.
- low maintenance
- superiority connectivity
- Autopilot
Ford has been very quiet on their upcoming “Autopilot” like system. Release date will probably coincide with the mustang. Nobody knows what to expect yet. Something dumbed down like Nissan and Toyota’s approach or map based like Cadillacs cruise. Either way. They better get on it or they will be a generation behind and as Volkswagen has found out it is hard to catch up on software.

- ha... I'll get an electric F150 right after I get a diesel one.... Which is never... But, I said I wouldn't get a V6 turbo either.... ha, ha... Guess will just wait and see and not worry about it in between..

I saw somewhere that Ford could only produce 50,000 Mach E's the first year due to battery constraints. I am sure that the truck will need many more.
Tesla was smart to build batery factory first then cars to have plenty
On hand
I think Ford GM never expected Tesla being in such demand and now its hard to catch up
And I think they are stil waiting to see how Cybrtrk will do before comiting to own EV truck.
With half a milion preorders Tesla will do awesome imo
I think you are right although I’m willing to bet half of the reservations were just made as place holders. My wife has a cybertruck reservation just in case we go back to the small trailer camping lifestyle. Time will tell.
I think ford will have a market though, lots of faithful f150 drivers. I’m kinda surprised they are risking losing some of their market share to others though. I would think getting an E F150 on the road would be a higher priority.- free_radicalExplorer
