The problem is the list of problems is a long one and complex with this engine.
What I'm concerned about most is your description of a "whine or a "knock" are never good descriptions when talking about modern diesel engines.
I can't think of a reason a turbo that needs cleaning would cause a whining or a knock or even a rough running engine. An EGR, sure, but that would not cause a whine or anything like that.
IMHO this is going to get expensive. Your ESP should cover almost anything engine related though. I just hope it's not HPOP related because Ford as a rule does not cover those. It's around a 10 thousand dollar bill if it is that. :E
