My boss gets about the same unloaded mileage with his 2016 F250 diesel as my 2016 F150 5.0 V8. Both on +1 size tires, both about 80% highway. Very similar usage and duty cycle, same mileage. Not even close on the operating cost though....not even close on purchase price either. Anything under 9K trailer, and the choice is easy.....

As it applies to this situation, unless you have a diesel fetish, the gas truck will do just fine.
