It is Fish. That's why I have a diesel! Lol.
But seriously, with the current V8s that are all in muscle car territory and some that are blowing away the old school kings of the road, I figured for sure one of the big 3 would have dropped a 7.x liter NA V8 into a pickup by now and claimed king of the hill for gassers.
Ilmor has a marinized 7.4L, full emissions compliant, 87 octane engine making 520 hp and tq. Designed for marine (high load) use.
Put your seat belt on big boy because a 7.0L is coming next year. :W
IDK that's what they say that GM will start putting in there HD trucks a 7.0L version of the LS engine. That would be amazing for sure.
Cool!
Now if they drop it in a new HD Suburban they'll rack up some real sales with it (as long as gas is cheap, lol).
Who is "they"?
Not that I would not welcome it, but a friend I met on another forum who is a long time GM engineer, has told me around the campfire that the reason GM still uses the Gen IV 6.0 Vortec as opposed to the Gen V 6.2 Ecotec in the HD's, is due to its cast iron block / stronger bottom end as opposed to the 6.2 Gen V aluminum block. GM considers the 6.0 Gen IV a "heavy duty" piece. That's despite the Gen V 6.2 having better numbers. I suspect thats why Ford uses their 6.2 with cast iron bottom in the F-250 also instead of some aluminum blocked higher displacement version of the Coyote or something.
This thread got my curiousity up though and I emailed my friend to see if he has any scuttlebutt on this 7.0 in the pipeline.
