Hi all...my wife and I r going to buy a larger tt in the 7500 pound range. The new ford f150 ecoboost properly equipped is rated at 11300 with the 3.73 limited slip dif.The f250 superduty w diesel is way overkill and another 20k in cost.Anybody had experience w the ecoboost....340 pound feet of torque btw...thx.., bo

Yep, I have experience with it. It has more than 340 ft/lb of torque -- did you mean 420 ft/lb? It is a great towing drivetrain. I have been very happy with it.

Agree. I have the 3.73 and towing packages. All I had to do to it was add a leaf spring. I didn't like how spongy it was. I really like the truck although I wish it had power folding mirrors. That's all I'd change on it. I hear the 2013 and up had that feature. Rats. I can't believe how well it pulls my 25RR fully loaded with full tanks, a GL1800 and a bed full of firewood. If I drive at 60 MPH I get almost 10 MPG pulling my camper.

BTW is that your dry weight? You might find you have difference results with a trailer that heavy. The weight adds up fast. There are more than enough threads on that topic.

I think that you owe it to yourself to completely price out the F150 and the F250. You might be surprised to learn that there is less difference than you think.

Again, you are only looking at the tow rating for your 7500 lb trailer. Look at the PAYLOAD. That's the important number. If you do go with the Ecoboost, order one with the HD PAYLOAD option also.If that is the dry weight, that's not a good number to use. Look at the GVWR of this trailer and of your next trailer. I can assure you that there will be a "next" trailer and it will be bigger and heavier.

Bilsteins are very popular. Have heard nothing but good reviews for them.

I went with Ford's HD shocks, but, in retrospect, would be happier with something even stiffer. Maybe that would be Bilstein?

Thanks, NiasWagn and brulaz, for the advice on upgraded springs and shocks. We will be using the F-150 mostly for towing and related driving while camping so I am not too concerned with it not riding like a Lexus when unloaded.

Any suggestions on rear shocks (make/model)? Probably can't go wrong with a pair of Bilsteins?

Most "half-tons" have the suspension tuned for a soft ride when unloaded, as they're usually used for commuting or "grocery-getting".

And when loaded up they wallow all over the place.

So we too beefed up our suspension (springs and shocks) and added LT tires. Makes it much better for towing and not bad at all when unloaded. I prefer a "crisp" ride anyway.

My EB had a spongy feel to it when I bought it. I took it down to the local suspension shop and added a leaf spring. It cost me about $300 and it made the world of difference.

The Denali had the 6.2 so it was similar to the EcoBoost in both torque and HP. So far it seems as the difference in power isn't going to be an issue. Just need to figure out how to make the F-150 ride as smooth as the Denali, that might be a tall order :B.

The F-250 with a diesel is not way overkill. Humming down the road with no worries is not overkill.

I have been towing with an Eco-Boost in the mountains at Glacier Park. Except for the occasional unusual down shifting pattern of the tow haul mode, I have had excellent results in the mountains.

I also find the manual shifting option handy for the downhill engine breaking.

We just bought a new to us 2013 SuperCrew XLT (9,000 miles) with the Ecoboost. We've literally had it only a few days, did a test outing to a local CG earlier this week and it towed our 6,200 lbs (estimate) travel trailer with no issues. Being a mile high most of the time (pun intended) and sometimes going to 10-11,000 feet I think we will appreciate the turbo vs. naturally aspirated engine.

Our previous TV was 2007 GMC Yukon Denali XL and although so far it seems as the F-150 matches it with towing power, I do miss the smoother ride of the Denali auto-ride. The F-150 seems a bit bouncy, not sure if there are some remedies for that?

So far so good, looking forward to some more extended towing this fall.
