I agree with Grit dog. I think it is capable of towing a utility trailer, but not a hard sided TT. I think wind forces acting against the TT would make for a situation of "the tail wagging the dog". :@
Even towing a utility trailer loaded to 3500 pounds, the braking would not be the best without trailer brakes.
By-the-way, we own an '09 Ford Escape and love it. So far we are reluctant to replace it with a new one. We don't care for the "updated" version. Just our personal preference for the older design. However, the day will come............
