I wish people would stop this. It's such a stupid exaggeration. The headlights will not "point for the sky." They will be SLIGHTLY HIGH. Some people might flash you, if you travel at night. Not a big deal.
If you want to see what the Explorer will do with 400-ish pounds of weight on the tongue, open the tailgate and sit three people across the back.
I put 6 square feet of 1" steel plate, plus (4) 350-amp welders with feeders in the the back of my company Flex. Overall about 2,200 pounds. I've also made numerous runs picking up welding wire. 30 cases at a time, at 54 pounds a case. Never once did I feel like the Flex was unstable or braking was adversely affected. I think the Flex has the same rear springs as the Explorer sport, but after running that one so hard, I'd never think towing with a Flexplorer.
