OK....but I posted this about two years ago and just posted spy photos of the 3.0 diesel f-150 about two or three months ago along with a story saying Ford said the baby diesel is a go for 2018.
This is old news is all. FCA built a half ton truck with a small diesel and GM and Ford had to fallow suit. GM decided to put their offing in a smaller truck 1/3 ton if you will :@ but I bet they will have a full sized diesel pickup soon. With Fords 10 speed and a 3.0 diesel they will once again be the MPG King.
Had FCA not went with the VM and used the 5.0 Cummins Ford and GM would not have bothered with a small diesel. The 5.0 is not a fuel efficient diesel as Nissan has found out. Ford would still be pushing the Ecoboost as their fuel efficient engine (not saying it is not either).
FCA's 2017 3.0 is tied up in the EPA 2017 testing while GM's mini D-Max has gotten the green light. I'm sure the Feds are looking at the Ecodiesel a lot closer do to the recent claims of cheating in some Cummins trucks and 2014-2016 Eco's. Time will tell how this plays out.
