Ford F150 Payload pkg

So, the wife and I ( more I) have been shopping around for a potential new TV. After hitting the auto show (I was the freak checking the payload sticker on all the trucks) I think I've decided on the F 150 HD payload. The truck will be a 2WD SuperCrew 6.5'box (157" WB)5.0, and should come in with around 2300-2400# payload. I would consider the eco-boost but it adds almost 4k and comes with a bunch of frills I don't want.

I know this truck will sling my current 5500# gvw tt no problem. So here is the question. We will likely be up-sizing in the next few years and the TTs we like seem to be in the 7500-8500# range (yellow sticker) 30-32'.

Enough truck? It's rated for 9600#. I know thats a best case number but the payload seems to work out and the rawr is 4800#

Fire away.
  • Why not just get the EcoBoost and not have a rough-riding gas-guzzler when solo, while having 3x the payload of the Ecodiesel and 50% more power.

This was my thought to. Although with the 5.0 and slightly less power. Apparently not a great idea to some.

I know a bigger truck will do a better job but, will this heavy half be safe with say, 8500# ready to go don the road? I tow slow (60mph) and don't plan on hitting any mountians.

Not looking for mass approval. Just opinions. I've seen some pretty questionable combos in the past and I don't want to fool myself into thinking I'm not one of them.

Got to love this can I Max out the Max F150 and still be safe, I will put Bags and Timbren's. 4,000# front axle 4,800 rear axle, I want to see you get 8,500# on that truck with out overloading the 4,800# rear axle. your GVWR is 93% of the axle ratings.
I do tow over GVWR, but well with in both axle ratings.

Do your self a big favor and get a F250, and be done with it.

A 6.0L gas 2500 series will get just as good towing mpg as the eco if you really want economy get a 1500 cummins.

If your already planning to upgrade trailers, why not quit worrying and get a 2500 series truck now? Just makes no sense to me to straddle yourself now with a questionable tow package.

    X2

    7500-8500# range (yellow sticker) 30-32'.

Those are delivered empty weights. You'll easily add 1k worth of stuff to that pushing you very close to, if not over, your tow rating. You will have plenty of payload but it may tax the 5.0l

Sorry, I meant the sticker that says " this tt left the factory at xxxxlbs". I automaticaly add 1k to that.

This is gonna be a dd truck. Not big mileage but still the family ride for sure. Probably 25000kms/yr (16k miles).

  • We have the 2012 CrewMax, 4WD, EB, Max Tow, HD package. We LOVE it and would not consider anything else. Yeah, it was $$$, but so were the others.
