I carried a 8' hard side and 2 different 8' popups on F150 6 cylinders for years and that was the old 240ci straight 6 and the V6 that replaced it (lots less power than the current ecoboost). As long as I didn't want to tow in hilly country in addition it did fine. I eventually replaced it with an F250 7.3l diesel (still with an 8' popup) and it does job easier but the F150 was adequate, I just didn't leave it on when not needed. The F250 hardly knows it is on so it stays on unless I need an empty pickup box.
