Can you say 7.3 PSD. Almost exactly the same numbers. It will do well in the market place.
Agree- my first thought reading the thread title ,then the op calls it underpowered?
Do they post fuel economy of 1/2 tons?I could go for this as a utility vehicle ,I have missed a pik up in my life.
I said underpowered to me for what it would be rated at. It was not meant as a dig on the engine. Some here may be perfectly happy with those numbers and that is fine since it is their preference. I just think that kind of power is better suited for a 7k-8k tow rating for my preferences of having plenty of power to spare when towing.
I know because I had and old 5.9L diesel that had very close to those power numbers stock and I used it to pull a trailer that was right around what Ford rates that engine to tow. While it pulled like a train on flat land, it was down on power for my preference and I would often loose speed going up even slight hills with that truck. Not only that, but passing the slower semi's on some of these two lane roads that are common where I tow was a chore. I had to wait for the right time when there was a mile of free lane which was rare so I was stuck behind these trucks doing 45 mpg most of the time. So I modified it to around 350 hp/ 600 lb-ft and it pulled any hill I took it on without loosing speed and could pass the semi's safer with less space. Not everyone tow in the same kind of conditions I normally do so their preferences may be different.
Although, this engine is for those guys who always complain that the truck makes keep increasing the power on the diesels, but not the efficiency. Well now you have the same power as the old diesels and the same tow rating, but more efficiency.
