The rest of the world runs on small diesel trucks. We are late to the party. The secret is plenty of gears. A ten speed gear box will change everything. It will always be in the power curve.

I worked with the mining industry for decades. A friend of mine was doing some exploration for gold in Indonesia. They had a 4 door long bed Ford truck powered by a 4 cylinder diesel. It had a 6 speed manual trans and a split rear axle and did fine on terrible roads.
