Ford will sell every one of these trucks that they make, probably 10% will ever tow anything and maybe 3% will tow up to their capacity. Most will be commuters, grocery getters and occasional trip to the hardware store.
Spot on. So many here have blinders and think everyone tows and cares about ratings.
The truth is very few 150/1500 care about either.
There is a motivation to increase fuel economy in any way possible that has little to do with consumers. The last I heard there were still laws on the books that pickup trucks must improve fuel economy significantly or face severe penalties.
It will be interesting to see some towing test reports but I am not overwhelmed with the fuel consumption data that I have seen so far. Between the higher cost of diesel and the cost of DEF it looks to me like the cost per mile will be about the same, at least empty. They are claiming that the diesel will have a much greater advantage when towing. To me there are several downsides to diesels so I don't forsee one of these parked in my driveway anytime soon.
