Well you won't be towing a 9500 lb 5th wheel unless you have an HD if you want to be under the RAWR, GVWR. Yes 5th wheels are inherently more stable and if you meet the payload for the pin weight then by all means go for it.
I have towed a 7300 lb TT with an F150 with Max Tow (Not HD) and until I used a Hensley Arrow it was all hands on deck in windy situations. It always felt like the truck and TT were just getting by. I switched to a Ram 2500 CC LB and the struggles went away.
I also currently tow a 9000 lb 5th wheel with that Ram 2500 and it's a breeze. Unless I have 2300-2400 lbs for payload then I would be over weight. 1800 for the pin, 280 for passengers and ?? for other gear in the truck and I'm over the RAWR on non HD trucks.
Do as you please.
I have a 2018 HDPP F150 and it tows my 8500 lb tow hauler in perfect comfort, safely, within all the rated specs. 2409 lbs of payload on the sticker. I ordered it specifically for the job I wanted to do and it is great so far. I've towed about 2000 miles of the 5500 I have on it.
The user manual for the 2018 F150 states in somewhat confusing terms to not tow more than 7000 lbs unless you have some package with a name I've never heard of. Max Tow and the HDPP are the only 2 I pay attention to, and I feel Max Tow is poorly named, since it's not the tow weight that matters, but the payload rating.
I might consider a diesel version but it has to have at least the same tow and payload ratings I have now.
