I didn't buy a PICK-UP TRUCK to drag race, whether I'm towing or not. So I really don't care who's truck is the fastest. I bought it for a purpose-daily driver and to tow my camper on the weekends along with at least one week long trip/vacation in the summer.
And that is fine and dandy, but I am speaking in terms of normal everyday half ton owners that (as has been stated before) do not tow that often. Most are comfortable with the fuel mileage that trucks like the Ecoboost, 5.0L, 5.3L or 5.7L get. If they weren't then the base model engine that gets the best fuel economy would be the most purchased engine in every make especially since most don't tow. However, this is not the case and the higher power engines outsell the lower powered more fuel efficient ones by a HUGE margin.
