Here are some more towing numbers for everyone. TFL did these tests so take it up with them. The 3.5 EB flat land towing got 8.5 and the ED got 13.3. If I took an average round trip vacation for me - about 2400 miles. On one trip, that EB comes out to around an additional 102 gallons of fuel(about $280).
With the trip included, not counting all the other weekend towing trips, that's about $1,800 a year savings over the 3.5 EB. Please explain other than the EB is faster (there are speed limits/even worse mpg when driving faster), where my numbers are off?
Again, I think there is something off with your math, but unsure since you did not post your prices. Using the Iowa average prices on Gasbuddy from above with gas being $2.19 and diesel being $2.65, a 2,400 mile trip with an Ecoboost getting 8.5 mpg and the Ecodiesel getting 13.3 mpg, that only comes out to a $142 difference, not $280.

This thread was about the FORD 3.0 though. I for one am very excited about this truck, I wont be upgrading because the cost wont be justified, but this direction in 1/2 ton trucks is exciting. Everyone needs to make up there own minds with there own situation and they don't need to be told what they do or don't need by someone with some type of ax to grind.
No axe to grind here. I am just a realist telling how the market works. As I said before, if it didn't work this way then the most fuel efficient base engine would be the most sold engine in every brand.
I would also like to point out that I am even talking about my own engine. I drive 80+ miles a day for work which is why I bought a 328d diesel instead of a 328i gasser. I knowingly gave up performance(and a manual) for fuel economy. In my case, the fuelly average for the 328i is 25 mpg and the fuelly average for my 328d is 39 mpg which is a big enough difference. However, I am not blind or bias enough to admit that I am a rare scenario and most would be willing to sacrifice fuel economy for performance which is why the 328i grossly outsells the 328d.
