This is exactly what I was thinking. Anything an F150 can handle, the 5.0 can handle. If you think you need the 6.2, you probably need an F250 more so, unless you just like having the most power with no consideration to fuel economy or cost.

Interesting, your 6.2 numbers are much better than ours. In town, 11ish, highway, 14ish and towing averages 8.5. Numbers could certainly be better but still love the truck.

If you want to stay with the 150, I would get the 5.0. It is a good motor, and will handle about any trailer that the payload of the 150 will handle. IMO, if you need the 6.2, you would be best off buying it in the 250.

Since the truck won't be your daily driver a small MPG difference should not matter. I would price both trucks, one may have a larger rebate, and also consider any Ford offered interest rates if you don't plan t pay cash.

Personally I would buy a F250 or better yet an F350 with the V8. Either would easily tow your current trailer and you would have the ability to load a couple of yards of sand etc. in the truck or haul a heavy trailer if you ever need to.

OP, if I were making your decision I'd take a poll on what fuel economy respective 5.0L & 6.2L owners are getting.

For your task the 5.0L is more than enough motor, but if the fuel penalty is small (maybe 1.5mpg or less) then I'd opt for the higher output of the 6.2L.

Great comments here, just what I was looking for. My 2000 F150 5.4 has been a great tow vehicle for the 4 different trailers I have towed all over the US. It has 130K miles and zero problems. My F150 is not my daily driver, I am retired and just travel now. We also have an older motorhome that shres some of the travel. After these comments I may just keep the 5.4? We have never owned a large heavy travel trailer due to living in the western NC mountains. The largest trailer only weighed 3400 pounds dry. We like them small and lite. Your comments have me leaning toward the 5.0 now.

Go 5.0 unless you forsee having to tow something much more than 4000#.
