Truly...Neither do I care what most anyone drives...but...when their
tastes limits my choices...then I'll take notice and try to figure out
a way around
I can fix most any 'old' and lower tech 4x4 'out in the boonies', but
my Suburban is both too big and too complex to fix 'out there'
Why noodled another FJ40, but so expensive because those types have
now driven up their price...by the time I make another one...it will
be to expensive, for me, to take out there
The Fashion Statement crowd would cringe at my 1970 FJ40. No AC, manual,
manual 4x4 (two levers), manual hubs, no rugs, etc...but could hose
off the interior and did so often. Some times took the doors (drivers,
passenger and rear) off to allow the water to flow out faster
Ditto the K5, but significantly less $$$. My 1973 was a huge step up.
It had AC, automatic, full time, high end stereo, and the highest trim
that by today's standards is almost a stripper. Optional stuff driven
by the now 'ex'
Why am noodling ATV's. Even then, they are becoming so complex, may
not be able to fix them out there either
Why am into old vehicles...but...again, that depends on 'my application'
This fashion statement crowd has moved the offerings available 'new'
to me out of my likings. 'They' can buy whatever they wish, but it
affects what "is offered to me"
As for level of opulence and ostentatiousness...sure thing for my
lux sedan. The ex got the S500 and the LS400. Noodling a Flying Spur
or a S65, but am now leaning towards a S55 because of an Internet
buddies comments on the S65 & S63...says the S55 is bad enough, but
tenable. This from one of the few in the USA qualified to work on them
Flying Spur is out, because they dropped the V12 in favor of a V8
Even if my stable went down from four (going to be five or six next
year) to one as my daily and TV/4x4/offroader...I'd then not want all
the bells and whistles...even for a daily...I'd 'suffer' through it
for the serious 4x4'ing of it
Bottom line is that it depends on the person and their intended
application. That the fashion statement crowd has driven the offerings
out of my desired option mix for my TV. I can afford pretty much anything
I want to spend the money on...but...that does me no good if it isn't offered
