There is no way I would argue against HID's, unless they are poorly aimed or problematic and blinding to on coming traffic. For these old eyes, on the Touareg, with self aiming feature, they are a Godsend for night visibility.
I completely agree about the HIDs, when properly aimed. But like all things, there's a right way and a wrong way to do them. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people around here that have added HIDs to the factory housings, which lack the proper cutoff lense to prevent them from blinding oncoming traffic.
I've have HIDs on my BMWs, and have added proper HID fixtures to my trucks, and LEDs to my Jeep, all with the proper cut-offs and focusing. I've become so accustomed to proper lighting that I miss it when driving someone else's vehicle.
