I have not had to do any programming changes to use my two trailers or two truck campers which all use LED external lights. I did have issues with my '03 VW reporting bad bulbs when I replaced blown incandescent models with LED, but the flasher rate did not change. I had to use external resistors on the LED bulbs or ones with internal resistance to remedy the false failure indicators. My pre-2000 MY vehicles have resistive flashers that are affected by low draw LED bulbs, but I have not seen this on newer ones (even my 2000+ MY motorcycles).
What year is your Ford? My 2005 F250 had no problem with trailers or campers using LED even though the truck lights were incandescent.
