Hello, Not sure if this has been posted;TSB 16-0087 MAY 25 20162011 to 2016, with 8ft box and factory hitch may exhibit a vibration orhopping at 42-70 MPH OR 68-112KM.Repair.. check on drivers side of the hitch to frame mount, should havecage damper..if not install one under warranty.Check my 2016 and no damper, I will have my dealer order one.pn 9C3Z-5D008-B DAMPERPN W706496-S439 BOLTS (3)

Yeah.. what the heck is a 'cage damper' on the frame of a hitch?? And what kind of hitch are they talking about, receiver or gooseneck?The only things I can think of that would make any sense, regarding vibration, is either the driveshaft carrier bearing mounting bracket, or some mounting bracket for the exhaust...

The cage damper is mounted to the drivers side frame mount of the trailer hitch. It bolts to the bracket from the actual hitch to the frame, It uses predrilled holes A lot of manufactures use them on exhaust systems and frames. A 2006 dodge 1500 has one mounted on each side of the frame in line with the transfer case.My 2016 does not have the symptoms but I am getting the dealer to install one anyways.

AND, it rarely works!!! It's a patch for a problem. Works on a few vehicles, but definitely not all. Just ask the your honest dealer!!!

No, it just hangs there on the side of the hitch. It's a heavy hunk of steel suspended in a cage by rubber mounts. The cage is to limit how far the suspended weight can move on the rubber mounts. There are bumper pads on the inside of the cage.

It's supposed to cancel out harmonic vibrations that can make the rear end hop and bounce around.

its a vibration damper. harmonic damper.

mine is out of warranty.. so will do without.

I also just worked on a 2006 Dodge Truck and it had 2 of them, one on each side of the frames where transfer case positioned.

They are there for a reason and must actual help as these are not cheap for Ford to install..when all manufactures nickel and dime each bolt

It weighs about 15 lbs.

Both of the F450's I've owned had them. I had to remove them because they interfered with the rear Torklift truck camper tiedown. If it was just just a couple of inches towards the front, the tiedown wouldn't hit it. I drove both trucks with and without the dampers, and didn't notice any difference.

Looks like it mounts behind the hitch receiver hole and on top of the hitch. Appears that it would dampen motion between the hitch and truck
