OK may be we can get back to what works for each of us. I want to know why your truck works for you and what is either good or bad about it. I will start with my experience. Cummins diesel engines are great until you blow one up. They are ticking time bombs and you might not even know it. If you have one and it still hasn't failed, count yourself lucky. What is even worse is the 2 parts that causes all the damage are tiny and so inexpensive. I will start with the killer dowel pin,(older engines) just look it up. Next is the clogging of the #6 oil nozzle from using aftermarket oil filters. Pay close attention, if your using anything but Cummins approved Fleetguard filters your pushing your luck. When this .50 cent part gets clogged, it starves the piston of lubrication and literally fries the can. Plan on doing a complete 6 piston rebuild for this fail. Moving on. The lift fuel pumps really suck on the early ones. Get a FASS pump and a fuel pressure gauge asap. VP44 injector pumps will fail if no pressure is being provided. Another known fail is the original head gasket. It can blow out in the left corner. Cummins has since put out a newer upgraded gasket. Who has had to replace the front end yet? Yes fortunately Dodge finally got this right but older trucks, especially ones with the heavier Cummins will wear out front ends. If you haven't had one drift on you yet, just wait for it. Best parts for this fix in my opinion is Moog. It still does not fix the crappy track bar but a upgraded bracket fix with a newer generation track bar will get you the fix. Have you had the throttle position sensor fail yet? This is a good one and it can happen any place any time. I carry a spare because the fail is complete shutdown. Happened in the middle of nowhere, same with the piston fail. Bad luck?... maybe. Bad truck? not really....I just love my Dodge and I wouldn't buy any other brand...right? Dodge is the best truck made on the planet hands down...LOL. Just kidding. I really like most trucks and all have issues and this is my point. If you don't know what you got and what can go wrong, your in need of others like myself who can provide you the failed experiences. No "brand" is hands down the best. What works for you is the question.
