Y’all realize that the NEWEST 6.0 PSD is 12 years old...right?
I still see them on the road doing work everyday.
Not saying that they are great but people know how to keep them running good now and parts are affordableish.
OP ... the Ex is an amazing vehicle. I’d think about just upgrading your truck. 4:56 gears and a tuner would really wake it up. Fix the front seats if you Ex’s are jacked (they all seem to wear out)
Thanks,

Yes I see them on the road here as well. But lets take a second and put this thread into context. Here is an OP that is considering a high mileage Ram and high mileage Ford 6.0. The OP's financial portfolio is not my business, but I will go out on limb and say he probably would not be in a position financially to repair and maintain a 6.0. Some of these comments make it sound like the 6.0 gets better with additional miles. No engine does, and certainly not this one. You can make the argument that at 170k it must be "one of the good ones", but it could also be someone finally got tired of putting money into it? I would say the later is even more likely.
I had two 6.5TDs. A 93 and a 98, I had great luck with them. 300K on the 93 and 100K on the 98 and no issues you would not expect given the mileage. Having to turn around on the Teton pass because the 93 couldn't make the climb with a loader on the back was my moment of clarity. I have no problem saying that dependability wise, I was happy with my experience. However, I am not recommending that engine to anyone in the HD market. Individual stories on the 6.0 are appropriate (and there are some good ones), but they have to be put in the context of the larger experience. That experience does not warrant the claim "Great Truck". I cant even believe someone said that.
This is why I suggest the GM gas 6.0 especially for a guy in this position. They have a rock solid reputation and nearly anyone can work on one, and since they have been out since 99 or whenever it was, there are no secrets, no waiting for the other foot to drop. You know what your getting a dependable, if not thirsty HD gas engine.
