I see a potential problem here. If numerous people made multiple reservations with the intention of selling their spots in line rather than actually buying the truck, then Ford may be manufacturing too many vehicles.
I see commercials on television for the Silverado electric truck which will be delivered more than a year away. The fine print says the dealer will determine the cost of the vehicle. I'm guessing there is a good profit motive for a manufacturer to take a deposit to hold a customer's place in line. It makes the buyer commit and dissuades him from considering other product during the interim, vehicles that could be available for immediate purchase. Plus, the manufacturer gets all the buzz that their vehicle is so popular because they have all those preorders. I wouldn't be surprised if the marketing departments are fudging the preorder numbers.
