When EV's made up 0.01% of the vehicle fleet, taxes were largely ignored. The political will was to encourage them and they made up such a small percentage of the fleet as to have no significant impact on highway funds. As they hit 1-2% and there is the potential for significant growth, people are taking notice, so yes, you should expect to eventually see a tax roughly equivalent to gas taxes. Historically, taxes have made up around 25% of gas prices, so not insignificant.

As far as "fueling" costs, depends greatly on the local electrical rates:
- Middle America: Electricity might be $0.10/kwh and at 0.3kwh/mile, that's around 3cents/mile for EV. A 50mpg car paying $3/gal is about 6c/gal. So double...no where close to 4-12 times as much unless they are artificially subsidizing electricity.
- California: Electricity might be $0.27/kwh and gas $4/gal...result is 8.1cents/mile EV vs 8.0cents/mile gas

Of course, this is assuming home charging. Paid public charging stations are much more expensive. (free charging is fading away as the fleet moves away from being a fraction of 1% of the fleet)

What a great contrast as no Tesla can be sold off the factory lot or store in TX like we do for all other products.

Looks like it's on the Ford Rouge plant. Sure hope Ford knows what it's doing in these unstable times and questionable motives.

Just a note. Diesel fuel in East coast communities, in Canada, hit a high of $7.28 per US gallon in USD.

For those of us that use liters $1.92 per liter (USD).

Add that to starting truckers for Walmart (USA) getting paid between 94 and 110 THOUSAND dollars.

Don't tell me Electric power will rival that price, anytime soon.

I used to dog trial with a fella that camped on a cot.... No tent or shelter of any kind. Most of the time he seemed real happy.
And then there are people towing with totally inadaquete lashups....You see them on the highway with their TT dancing all over the road... They seem happy as well.
I guess there is no accounting for expectation levels.

Heh Heh :) Not sure what any of that means but keep on writing the story to suit your narrative. Meantime we'll keep going to places like these we have been to this year already. And we'll sign off there as we'll be on the road for a few days. Time to go camping.
