Hedgehog if you get down to ordering the SRW 350 with the 6.2 consider this. For the limited towing you do you could tow in 5th with the 3.73 and be about the same as the 4.30 gears. Then you have the lower rpm cruising empty.
I have tan F250 6.2 with 4.30 and wish i had went with the 3.73 and towed one gear down.
If the exact same truck has a lower tow rating with the 3.73 I could give a flip. With all those gears to choose from i don't see why the 4.30 ratio converts to higher tow rating, except maybe CYA for the manufacturer. :h
Initial take off power is the key here. IE a lower overall ratio to start with, equals a heavier load on a given grade to get going, OR, a steeper grade before stalling out with a given load. Some of us tow on side roads which is where this occurs, Here in the greater Seattle area, I have been on city roads and driveways upwards of 33% in grade. Those 4.30s would come in real handy! BUT, from a person that might be on at best local roads in the 15% range, drives 60 towing, 70 unladen, then the 3.73 is the better ratio. BUT for me, doing the lower speed driving on steeper roads, I can not drive locally but 100 miles away north and south above 60 mph, the extra high gear the 3.73 offers is a useless gear in trans to work with.
