Are you sure. More expensive does not equal higher resale value. Just my cursory checking same year, vehicle, and mileage in KBB averaged about $4k more for the diesel compared to the gas engine. So the diesel is in fact worth more dollars but the original price was also at least $4k more new.
I spent about a year shopping, so yeah I'm pretty sure. Maybe it varies a lot by region, but in the northwest there's a big premium for used Cummins or Duramax, and to a lesser extent Powerstrokes, over gas trucks. So much so that I ended up buying new because for a few thousand more I got a new truck with a full warranty over one that was a few years old with 50-75k miles on it.
