Ford Truck

I have a 2005 F350 Diesel looking to up grade. Looking for a 2012 0r 2013 Diesel. How have they been, is the diesel engine better than my 2005. I had plenty of issues with the 05. i have 162,000 mi and it is running good, but with that mileage other things begin to happen. Would love to hear any carments.
  • The new 6.7 Ford diesel is completely different than the 6.0 you have now. Plenty of power, reliable. Only real issue with it is the high pressure fuel pump. Its made by Bosch, and it doesn't like water in the fuel. Same unit that Chevy uses on their diesel.

I also had an 05 Ford 6.0 diesel, and although I didn't have too many expenses with it, I opted to get rid of it after selling my 5ver and moving to smaller.

Make sure you get the 6.7, and not the 6.4 interim engine that was used for a couple of years.
  • I had an 05 Super Duty 6.0 PSD with ~170k miles when I traded it on my current 12 Super Duty 6.7 PSD. My current truck is a little over two years old and 50k miles and it hasn't experienced a single hiccup, but so did my 05 until about 80k miles when it required an EGR valve cleaning.

Comparing the two different (unmodified)trucks the 6.7 PSD pulls much better and makes better fuel economy, and just run's like a scalded ape.

It sounds like your looking at used trucks and the single most important feature to make sure it has no matter what brand is DEF/SCR equipped. This feature alone promotes better fuel economy, better overall power, and much less fuel/oil dilution of the engine to name a few.

    Good luck...
  • I traded my 06 F350 6.0 lat year to an 08 GMC Duramax with 108000 miles and love it. First year ownership with Ford, nearly $6000 in repairs and still had issues. First year with GMC zero problems. Engine is so much quieter, smoother and powerful. Loved the look of the Ford but not the engine. The 6.7 would probably be a different story. Good luck and Happy camping.
