- hone_eagleExplorerBattery could be mistaken assumption ,hydraulic is also something Ford was playing with in large cars a while ago.
- hone_eagleExplorerGM canceled the hybrid ,why ? who knows
sales I suspect ,too much money for not enough gain in MPG?
Did they not use a 6.0 power plant? - LessmoreExplorer IIDoesn't GM already have a hybrid pickup ?
Seeing hybrid taxis around town, I believe they are battery powered till they hit a certain speed...25-30 mph or so, before they cut into the gas engine.
For a delivery vehicle in a city, I think a hybrid would a lot of sense. Delivery trucks...say the size of a Sprinter can pile up a lot of low speed miles and I certainly could see this type of vehicle becoming cost effective and saving a lot of fuel.
But for a regular pickup...or other type vehicle, driven by a typical consumer, I do wonder when the additional cost of the hybrid system pays off.
Also my understanding is that the eventual cost of battery replacement for a hybrid, runs easily into the thousands.
Think battery replacement comes around every 8/10 years...+/-. If I bought a used 5-10 year of hybrid vehicle, this would be my concern. Think Toyota with their Prius has an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty....but I'm not sure.
What happens when the battery needs replacement...on my dime. That would be my issue.
If one were commuting back and forth via a highway...think the better deal would be a small turbo diesel. The Hybrid gas engine cuts in on the highway.
Will be interesting to see how the hybrid universe..... unfolds.
