- BluhornExplorerI think that this will be a homerun for Ford and I commend them for taking a gamble. We the consumers are the winners. More choices, more jobs, stronger economy. I wish them much success.

What on earth is the payload/tow capacity of the F-150 and with what powertrain configuration are these increased capabilities achieved? You would have to think the remarks are more targeted to the 3/4 ton market than one ton segment...:h
Here's a leaked photo of the 2015 4x2 F150 Max Payloads.
They have risen by 100-300# in each category over the 2014 Payloads and are higher (esp. HD Payload models listed at the bottom of each category) than any other "half-ton" pickup. For example the payload of my current 2011 SCab 145" wb EcoB would probably increase by ~200# to 2230#.
Footnote 4 indicates a 2.7L EcoB with HD Payload.
Footnote 5 indicates a 5L V8 or 3.5L EcoB with HD Payload and 17" steel wheels.
Footnote 6 is as 5 except with 18" Alloy wheels.
I may have Footnote 5 and 6 reversed but I don't think so. - HybridhunterExplorerFord owned Jaguar, which made entire bodies from aluminum. The hood on the F150 has been aluminum for what, a decade? Unless you think steel airplanes, motorcycles, snowmobiles and engine blocks are a great idea, I have a hard time understanding the luddite fear of aluminum.
- larry_barnhartExplorerI guess from now on I cannot say a ford is tinny .
chevman - Interesting read...
The Best Never Rests - Slated4GreatnesExplorerThe hood on my 06 F350 is Aluminum..
- goducks10ExplorerI wonder if they will come out with an Airstream model. Polished to match your favorite Airstream. Maybe some extra rivets on the outside for bling:B

Aluminum is not a gamble- it's a home run.
Long time since I owned anything but an aluminum horse trailer- and they have been using it even longer on airplanes.
Now it is catchup for the other guys- Heck- rumor has it the new Jeep will be aluminum.
I just wonder if I can get an F-150 with no paint. Every couple years I could hit it with a little acid bath and she would look brand new!
Or consider the possible colors of anodized aluminum - fly-boyExplorerAluminum is not a gamble- it's a home run.

It was interesting to read one Ford official's comment that Ford believes because of the F-150's 'increased capabilities' (though not detailed in the article) they may gain sales from current HD pickup owners and buyers considering an HD that either tow infrequently or don't want to pay the 'diesel premium'.
