Forest River RV, effective June 1 2017, has discontinued offering their optional 2nd year low cost extended warranty, which they have offered on many of their towable brands for quite a few years. The official scuttlebutt as read elsewhere is because some states have enacted legislation that does not allow a manufacturer to offer an extended warranty. ( I assume Ford,GM, and Dodge have not heard the news yet or maybe they're exempt?). Some recent buyer received official correspondence when attempting to purchase the 2nd year plan stating its due to legal decisions. Being an owner of a Forest River product, I would be willing to bet the real reason is because the bottom line is taking a hit due to the shoddy workmanship and the push them out the door attitude. After completing, correcting, repairing the build issues on our Forest River product we like kind of like it now, but I highly doubt I would ever entertain buying another of their products.

When I bought our Wildcat (which has been phenomenal) the price for that second year was ridiculous. I wonder if very few people were buying it.

Jayco and Lance still offer 2 year, unless Jayco (being absorbed by Thor) has changed things...

Forest River 2nd year warranties started at $150 and only went as high as $250 depending on the unit as far as I know.

There may be some confusion to this story.I read in the Wall Street journal that Berkshire (owner of F.R.) is in hot water in Texas. It seems there is a law there baring auto dealerships and manufacturers from sharing ownership.Since Berkshire also owns some car dealerships, they are (according to the DMV) in violation.Many states have similar laws, but they are more specific. For example: Chevrolet cannot both manufacture and operate dealerships in the same state... Obviously, DMV in Texas is taking advantage of a poorly written law to go after them. It is being contested in court. Hopefully either the court rules in Berkshires favor, or the legislature fixes the law, as there are many other similar situations that this law could then be applied to, if DMV prevails.If DMV prevails, I could see something like F.R. pulling out of Texas happening.

I'm disappointed to see this go. For us, it more than paid for itself when our slide had to be rebuilt during the second year of warranty.

Normally yes, but IIRC FR offered the extra year for $150.00. Thats a bargain any day.

Virtually all warranties are "Limited Warranties", even the warranty on your Truck

Our FR Rockwood Windjammer has been flawless. Zero issues and build quality has been very good IMO. Some of the cheaper FR lines might be having issues.

It's not the extended warranty you are thinking! What you are doing is adding another year to the factory warranty. The price for me back in 07 was $100. Some said $200 or $250 up until just now. Hardly a "profit center"! In fact just the opposite. They were probably losing money on it.
