Forward to the past....

Going to be an expensive week. My 03 F350 diesel had the #3&7 injectors go south after 130,000 miles and started blowing clouds of smoke with no power. While the mechanic had that side of the engine apart I had him also replace 1&5. Luckily the compression tested out fine so no other issue. I also had him flush the transfer case (needed it) tranny was fine, new engine oil and filter, both fuel filters and the airfilter. Then he found that the drivers front wheel bearing was shot it got replaced. All told $3300. My 2011 F350 has a oil leak that I cant find. It went in on friday....has to be fixed before we leave for the Tetons mid July

So forward to the past I had a horse show to work and needed the camper. The shop where the 2011 is going is near the wifes work so she took it when she took off on friday and dropped it off. So with no test drive after getting the 03 back It was air up the 19.5s and airbags, set the Ranchos to 9 and load up the Lance 1055 for the first time in a year.

Ok Ryans automotive on First street in Livermore CA gets a big thumbs up. Power when the engine was cold, heck I never had that before, front end was quiet and the steering spot on. I have to wonder how long stuff has been going slowly south. Up over Pigeon Pass on 84 and The Sunol Grade on 680 I held the speed limit with ease and the pothholes on 101 soth of San Jose failed to send me off line for the first time in years. Yeah its no 400 HP dually but I was really pleased.

So the first day ended in the early afternoon and it was only 90* out so I decided to make use of that bicycle I bought along and test my new found fitness. Oh I guess I forgot to mention that I went on a fitness program and have dropped from 275 pounds in December to 208 pounds here in June. Anyways off I went, climbing up the canyon to Fremont Peak State. I forgot how much fun it is to fly back down the canyon roads after suffering on the climb up.

    2011 starts day 3...Day one was to diagnose and start teardown
    Today was supposed to be repair, rebuild and finish. Apparently they ran into a problem bolt on the back of the turbo and rounded it up. Thus they spent many hours getting it out without damaging my Turbo.
    Supposedly the truck will be ready tomorrow. I have faith in these guys as they did a prior repair job on the old truck that gave me a great 3 years of trips ( none of their work has failed, I just moved too far away for normal jobs or I would have used them on both repairs)

    I like that rear view camera.
    The no trespassing sign was a hoot.
    Buzz Litebeer was a funny touch.
    Sorry about the truck issues but your workaround with the old truck was timely.
    Looking forward to seeing the new and improved steed.

    I eat whatever the heck I want. I just do it in smaller portions than I used to. A nd now that i know the calorie content of different foods I make better choices in regards to taste and calories...Steak or ribs vs a flour tortilla for = calories protein vs carbs I know which wins.

    Buzz I went from 220 to 170 about 3 years ago. Took about 7 months. I will admit I felt great, everything was easier. Didn't count calories but pretty much the same as you cut out the carbs, for me that's bread and beer! Now here I am at about 204 again :(. I may go that route again. As we all age that extra weight definitely takes its toll! But good work, good luck and stick to it. You will inspire me and probably a few others. :) One thing I did do is allow myself what every I wanted at Sunday night dinner. Not because of a faith but because that is the night the kids and grand kids come over for dinner!

    Buzzcut1, I take your post seriously. I intend to look more closely at it's content. Political correctness aside, my doctor is a small skinny guy. He says I am getting fat (my words not his). I'm thinking maybe I should loose some weight or change doctors to one that is fat like me. Problem is, I really like my present skinny doctor, always to the point and is hesitant to prescribe drugs.

    Looking good on the bike Buzz! The cost of truck repairs is nothing compared to the cost of health "repairs".

    I did have 5 oz of rib eye steak with a kale salad and one NA beer for dinner.

    I have 8 more pounds to go to reach my goal of losing 75 pounds and hitting the 200 mark.
    I am envious, how long has it taken and how have you done it? I too need to loose about 75 to 80 pounds. I have gained so much weight that I bought a dually. Still have my SRW in case I loose the weight. :B

    Wayne, It took 6 months to lose the weight. It wasn't that hard but it wasn't that easy either. I really had to focus on my plan and goal at all times with no cheating or slacking off. I don't know if you could do it at my loss rate but this is what I did.

    First the tools
    Software (free) "Lose It" for the cell phone to track my calories
    Hardware: Fit bit charge HR to count my steps and monitor my resting heart rate (which went from 70 to 50 as I lost weight).
    digital food scale with tare function
    digital human scale.

    In the lose it set up I set my current weight and goal weight, height age etc. It set me up with a 2500 calorie a day budget which I know is bogus ( they want you to buy into the paid prgrams) I reset it to 1250 a day knowing that it is low but the calories consumed are going to be a best guess and will end up closer to 1500. I eliminated processed foods for the most part, no sweets or ice cream, No carbs after lunch. So a burger for dinner meant using an iceberg lettuce wrap instead of a bun. The carbs are the killer. a tortilla is 200 calories so is 3 oz of steak. I choose the steak every time. bread is the same 200 calories per slice not going to happen.

    At dinner I always had 4-5 oxz of meat, pork,lamb or fish with a huge side dish of vegis ( salad, green beans etc)

    I set my step goal on the fitbit at 10,000 steps per day. i par at the far end of every parking lot and use the furthest entrance to each building. You just have to keep moving. No matter how tired I was post work I would grab the dogs and walk until I hit that 10k number then push it a bit more 7 days a week no skipping

    Its a simple formula, reduce your food portions and get off your butt and walk instead of sitting on the couch and watching tv.
