that's where you're wrong. only very expensive bikes weigh less than 20lbs. the average Walmart/Target adult bike will easily weigh 50lbs. for one of them.
so, even with two adult bikes and two kids bikes, with the rack system, you'll easily be over 100lbs.
Yeah now that I think about it you are probably right..... My wife and I's bikes are around 25 pounds a piece. In my case even if they were 50 lbs I am overkill on my tow vehicle enough that it still wouldn't affect me however I know that's not the case for everyone.
you must have good bikes to be around 25lbs.
my $2000 full-suspension xc race bike weighs about 25lbs.
