I think in the short term I will leave it to get the camper home and maybe one or two short weekend trips before the weather really gets bad. But I see myself making it right as it will probably just bug me otherwise. It wouldn't take much for an exhaust place to redirect the tailpipe slightly to miss it entirely. It's just the right thing to do. Primarily I was worried about possibly damaging something in the meantime while the pipe is being forced down a bit.
