Frame Rail Comparison

Okay, so a little background.

We are restoring a couple of trucks. Both are 1997 models. One is a Extended Cab S10 we are fixing up for my boy who turns 16 this summer. The other is a Indy 500 Ram Pace truck regular cab.

Both beds are off at this particular time and just happened to be parked in the shop with the frame rails pointed toward one another. Can you tell which is the S10 and which is the Ram 1500?

Thanks!

Jeremiah

  • I guessed right before scrolling down and have never worked on trucks (although I've driven a few). The frame on the right looks like it has a little less height to it and no cross members. That's why I guessed it was the S10.
  • Dodge on the left and S10 on the right. Another clue is how much the tailpipes stick out.
  • The spring shackles are under the frame on the S10. Real trucks have the springs outside the frame. :B

The payload probably about the same on both?
  • Yep, the frame rails on the right is the S10. The Ram is on the left.
  • The one on the right is the Ram. I think.

Oops, I did not read the post above from the guy with the S10. Sorry.

Yes I only can tell as the leaf shakle points mounts are different and the s10 dont have the cross support like the ram... I had the 96 s 10 zr2.. I know the truck well.

Towed that 5000 lbs trailer in my sig for about 4 years..

I only wish you didnt give the answer...LOLOL

Great looking Rig! Funny, I remember when you first started on this Forum. You took a lot of work and time to get your rig set up right IIRC. I wish more folks would do that. My sons is a 2wd 4.3 Auto with the step side bed. He thinks he is lowering it. Hahhaha

Great Suggestion....I removed the answer :)

    Thanks!
