Frequency & Intensity Of Awning Cleaning?

Gave up on my last awning, too far gone to make it look good again. My new awning was shiny white until my first trip, it now has those telltale brown dirt lines where the material rolls up on itself. I hosed it off to no avail so I'm wondering about others. Do you clean after every trip? Do you clean a couple of times a year? Do you scrub it or give it a light once over? I'd like to keep it looking new but I really don't want to clean it after every trip & I don't have time to do it immediately when I get home. I've tried the Dometic suggestion of dish soap & bleach & have never had any luck with it. Please, let me in on your secrets!

  • I clean it very good once a year, and just lightly clean it after every trip. I make sure it is dry when rolled up, IF not. I roll it out and dry it at home.

Clean our's using Mr Clean Magic Eraser once each spring.
  • I found that the magic eraser mop head works fantastic at cleaning the awning. Use it in conjunction with bleach and your favorite cleaner.
  • Spray with Awsome from Dollar Store, brush and then spray with water.
  • We clean ours after pretty much every trip. Brush if off, wipe it down. Nothing will bug me more than if the awning gets all icky looking underneath.
  • I buy new fabric every 5 years. It takes a little over an hour to install it...less time than I bet would be spent trying to keep it clean over 5 years.
In AZ, thats about all you can get no matter what anyway.
  • I usually give it a light cleaning after every trip, wet it with the hose and brush with car brush on extended pole and then rinse. A couple of times a year I will soap it and roll it up for a bit, then unroll and rinse. Three years old now and still looks new.
  • I open awning fully
I then use a bleach/water mixture (16 oz bottle--4oz bleach then fill with water)in a spray bottle and spray down top side end to end at roller while GF retracts it slowly.

    30 minutes later
Extend awning fully and rinse with hose....both sides then let it air dry before retracting again
