My partner and I are new to TT's, having recently (two months ago) bought a 2008 Coachmen Captiva TT and have used it only once. We plan to use it next weekend and are getting it ready.
Yesterday we decided to sanitize the fresh water tank and this morning while rinsing out the bleachy water we apparently overfilled it because the tank dropped out of its brackets and crashed through the bottom panel. Now it's lying on the ground, still half-filled.
Before we call a mobile repair tech, is there any way we ourselves can repair this? We're not the handiest women in the world but we're very trainable and want to learn...
Thanks!
What happened to you is not unheard of and it really gets interesting when it happens with a full black tank. I remember one thread about a brown volcano spewing out the vent causing quite a mess as the owner was sitting at his dinette and seeing a brown river flowing down his window. I think every owner needs to check and probably add some extra support to all their tanks. IMO the thinness of the tanks and minimal support usually angle irons along two edges results in the tank over time deforming just enough to drop between the supports or even the support's welds or bolts rusting and breaking with the same consequences. It might seem a hassle to mess with dropping the underbelly and messing with these tanks supports, but trust me it's better to do it at home with an empty tank then either along the side of the road or in a CG hundreds of miles away on a weekend.
I found my FW tank supports loose and I even added a support in the middle of both the grey and black tank to reduce the sagging when they were full.
