FRICTION SWAY CONTROL

hey all. I have a basic friction sway bar. the little plate that welds to the hitch for the ball to mount to has pretty much no instructions. im guessing since there is near infinite adjustability in the sway bar its not a critical location?. hang it out and run a couple beads? or is there more of a science to it.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said and yes it is critical. If it isn't right you will pop one of the balls pretty easily.
  • It's not thaaat critical. It should be long enough to just put one end near the tow ball and weld er down.
  • When you back up and Jack knife the trailer you don't want the sway bar to slide all the way to gather because it will brake. Also backing the other way you don't want the sway bar to slide out so far that it comes apart so, yes it is kind of critical to get it in the right spot.
  • I ordered mine from ETrailer...attached the bracket to the trailer with self-tapping screws....the little ball mounted on my hitch.
  • mine is a small ball on a plate that bolts to the trailer and a plate that welds to the sleeve of the hitch to hold the other ball. looks like there is pleanty of room to clear the bumper/hitch just wasn't sure if I was going to get into trouble screwing with the angles.
  • My friction bar has a smaller ball that bolts to the hitch and a plate with a ball that is bolted to the trailer frame.

I'm sure its somewhat critical because it has to not bottom out when you turn. How critical I do not know.
