There is more to performance than acceleration when it comes to tow vehicles. As a drag racer, I always looked for the best power to weight ratio. In a pickup, that is only part of the equation. That 1,200 pounds does more than simply slow down acceleration. A heavier pickup may actually outperform a lighter model when it comes to braking, steering, and handling a heavy load. You are correct though, that in a drag race, the lightest with the biggest motor will win.
