Once a manufacturer establishes a "look", it is hard for them to back off that and do anything similar to a competitor.
Apparently, they have been putting on those mirrors for quite awhile . They are not too bad in the tow position , then the smaller portion of the mirror is positioned in the bottom, but when not that smaller mirror is distracting, being to one side.
