Gas power is fine and for towing go with 3.73 gears. I went with a Chevy 3/4 ton in part to get the smoother ride with the independent front suspension.
My new 2011 diesel LT truck with extended cab and every option package except the leather seats and the navigation (but including chrome side steps and bed liner and tow mirrors) cost me $41,700 out the door. A gas version would have cost me less than $32,000 as the diesel engine and Allison transmission added $9,000.
The most I have ever paid for any vehicle under any circumstances is $1,000 over dealer invoice. I know as does the dealer that the invoice price is not actually the dealer's true cost as they get discounts based on the units sold during any sales period.
I would be shopping for a 2014 model year that is already on a dealer's lot. I also never talk to a salesperson but ask for the sales manager or the fleet manager or the general manager as these people work on salary and when there is no salesperson's commission to pay that is at least $1500 that is available to you instead.
