FWIW last time I was getting my oil changed at the local Ram dealer I checked a bunch of weight stickers. All of the 2500 6.4's I looked at were 3000lbs+/-. All the 2500 CTD's I looked at were in the low 2000lb range.
I've reached the conclusion that a 2500 is fine with a Hemi, but with the CTD it probably makes sense to step up to the 3500 and sacrifice a little ride comfort. Unless you go high output/aisin, I think the only difference between the two is the rear springs setup and weight ratings.
